Due to injury, car breakdowns and holidays SSKI London took an elite group of two (!) competitors to the SSKI Nationals at the Hemel Hempstead Honbu Dojo on Sunday 5th October 2014.

First up was Joydeep Shil in the Under 16 Senior Kata category, who put in a fantastic performance in his first ever competition winning the event with performances of Enpi and Jion.  This was followed by his Sensei, Adam Cockfield, winning the Senior Mens Kata category with Nijushiho and Unsu.

Joydeep then repeated that success getting into the final of the Under 16 boys kumite, the highlight being an ura-mawashigeri (reverse roundhouse kick) against an opponent who was at least a foot taller than him!  Unfortunately, Joydeep lost a very closely contested final 1-0.

Adam Sensei followed his win in the Kata event by winning the Senior Mens Kumite, beating Dan White Sensei in a very tight final.

The London Dojo three Golds and a Silver in the four categories entered which resulted in both Joydeep and Adam Sensei winning the Junior and Senior “Competitor of the Day” trophies respectively.  This was a fantastic achievement for the Club and for Joydeep especially in his first ever competition.
